Focus Mode

When you need more space to work on a single character, focus mode enlarges one canvas to fill the screen. It's ideal for fine detail work, calligraphy, or when the grid view feels too cramped.

Entering Focus Mode

Double-tap any character canvas to open it in focus mode. The canvas expands to the center of the screen with a dark backdrop, and the full drawing toolbar appears on the left.

What You Get

  • Larger canvas — The character fills the viewport so you can draw with more precision.
  • Zoom and pan — Pinch to zoom in and out, or drag to pan around the canvas. Useful for intricate strokes or checking fine details.
  • Two-finger rotation — On touch devices, use two fingers to rotate the canvas if you prefer a different drawing angle.
  • Full toolbar — All pen options, guides, ghost font, undo/redo, and clear are available in the floating toolbar.

Exiting Focus Mode

  • Press Escape on your keyboard
  • Tap the X button in the top-right corner
  • Click or tap on the dark area outside the canvas

Your strokes are saved automatically when you close focus mode. They sync back to the grid view, so you can continue editing the same character in the normal view or switch to another character.

When to Use It

Focus mode is especially helpful when:

  • Drawing complex characters with many strokes
  • Using the Fountain pen for calligraphy-style variation
  • Working on an iPad or tablet where the grid cells feel small
  • You need to zoom in to refine a specific part of a letter
